The Duster 4x4 from Dacia is a practical, rugged, no nonsense SUV with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine producing an impressive 130 PS linked to a smooth 6-speed manual gearbox, and four-wheel drive that can tow up to 1500 kg. It has a lovely high driving position, plenty of room inside, and a useful boot, so it works well as an everyday car as well as for country roads, camping and rougher tracks. The Extreme version is the more rugged, better-equipped model, with features such as heated front seats, a handy tow-bar, a heated steering wheel, climate control, a touchscreen with smartphone connectivity, roof bars and a choice of off-road driving modes. The 4x4 system gives it noticeably more confidence on muddy roads, snow, grass and gravel than many comparable 2 wheel drive car. Out on the open road, the 130 PS engine is comfortable for normal driving and motorway journeys, while the suspension gives the Duster a comfortable feel over uneven roads.
